Mantic "Kings of War": demo/walkthroughs

Last gaming of the year took place this past Saturday at my local shop.  After a year of building, painting, basing etc. I was finally able to take the miniatures for a run!  I supported the Mantic Kings of War kickstarter in the fall of 2012 and once the minis started showing up in the post I knew it would be a long project LOL.

To be honest, I haven't played a mass combat fantasy game in probably 20 years (Warhammer 2nd or 3rd edition most likely?).  But, I was intrigued by Mantic's new rules and affordable minis...so I decided to make it one of those long-term projects.  And alas, after a year of slowly working on it...games were afoot!

I won't get into a review of the rules this posting: I will admit I am not a rules lawyer or junkie and really just like to have fun and move minis around.  In that light, I believe I am going to be a fan of these rules...simple, clean, room for flavor and excellent pacing.  I will write more on my thoughts at a later date, but for now I thought I would post some pics from the (3) games we ran in roughly 4.5 hrs (including everyone learning the rules!).

Orcs versus Undead horde....while an army of Dwarves observe from atop the hill.

Undead horde form battle lines...no rhyme or reason to placement...just lined up and moved that way!

The "Zombie Endless Swarm" unit!  Enjoyed making this unit and base, think I might paint another and it seemed to be a fun unit to play with in the game...took massive amount of damage before breaking.

Overall had a great time playing the game after nearly a year long build-up.  Look forward to finishing up more units to fluff out the armies and work towards a MASSIVE game late in the year.

Wish everyone a safe and happy new year!  Good gaming ahead!

...and thus it begins...

Well...been thinking of a miniature wargaming blog for some time (as in I considered starting one this time a year ago) so here I am a year later and decided to make a go.

Basically I am hoping the blog will inspire me to paint more, build more, game more...spend more time on the actual hobby than surfing the net and looking at all the pretty minis other people have painted!

I don't have a specific genre or even scale, though I am partial to 28mm...love to see the biguns cover the table in whatever setting!  I collect and paint for whatever strikes my fancy, so often that means I am starting a new army or collecting for a new game more often that I want, but occasionally I finish something and get a chance to game out with friends.  I am planning on posting my thoughts on new games and minis as I have enjoyed reading others views via blogs...the more info we have the better right????

Well... I wish everyone a happy new year in 2014 and best of luck on your gaming/painting resolutions!
Oh, and here is my tiny hobby desk...clean at the moment, as I am prepping for a new project!  Stay tuned!
